Our Teaching Methodology and Teaching Practices
Unlike many traditional and grammar-based language teaching and methods, at Oxford House our teachers are trained to teach using more up to date communicative approaches to teaching. This means that greater emphasis is placed on helping students use the target language in a variety of contexts and learning language functions. Unlike many traditional methods, its primary focus is on helping learners create meaning rather than helping them develop perfectly grammatical structures or acquire native-like pronunciation. This means that successfully learning a foreign language is assessed in terms of how well learners have developed their competence, which can loosely be defined as their ability to apply knowledge of both formal and aspects of a language with proficiency to communicate in real life situations which makes our courses exciting and rewarding and progress is made quickly. We use communicative activities to identify need for practice in accuracy and fluency.
Learning through speaking is called the Communicative Method and with us you will always follow a Communicative Method syllabus working on all your English language skills. You will participate in classroom discussions, work in small groups, in pairs or individually. You will practise your English pronunciation, intonation and accent. Your lessons will be topic based focusing on various issues from current affairs to everyday issues. Your professional and friendly teachers will expand on lesson topics helping you to increase your vocabulary, work on your grammar, improve your sentence construction and allow you to express yourself in the correct way.
